La Crosse, WISCONSIN. – The Midwest Collegiate Conference announced its weekly honors earlier today and three Viterbo University athletes picked awards. V-Hawk volleyball player Jennifer Krentz (So. – Watertown, Minn.) was named MCC Libero of the Week and teammate Alicia Olson (Jr. – Eau Claire, Wis.) was named MCC Player/Hitter of the Week while Molly Machometa (So. – McHenry, Ill.) of the women's soccer team was honored as MCC Offensive Player of the Week.
This is the fourth straight week that Krentz has been honored by the MCC as the top libero. In two games last week, Krentz averaged 6.25 digs per set and committed just two reception errors in 25 service attempts. In the MCC opener against St. Ambrose University, Krentz picked up 22 digs and a service ace. Krentz now leads the MCC with 404 digs on the season.
Like Krentz, Olson has been honored the last four weeks as well as either the player or hitter of the week. Last week, Olson helped lead the V-Hawks to back-back wins over St. Ambrose University and UW-La Crosse. In two matches, Olson averaged 4.88 kills per set along with 2.38 digs per set. Olson put the V-Hawks on her back in their come from behind 3-2 win over UW-La Crosse as she finished with 24 kills. She now leads the MCC with 366 kills at an impressive 4.46 kills per set average.
This is Machometa's first time this season being honored by the MCC. Since coming back from an injury that caused her to miss the first four games of the season, Machometa has been on a scoring terror and has helped lead the V-Hawks to a current six game win streak. The lady V-Hawks went 2-0 last week as Machometa scored five goals. She recorded a hat trick in Viterbo's 7-1 win over Waldorf College and then scored two more goals in the V-Hawks 4-1 win over MCC foe AIB College.
