La Crosse, Wisconsin (WXOW) --- Community service is a major part of the Oktoberfest celebration.
Monday, the Grenadiers ambassadors of the fest continued that tradition starting at Aquinas High School.
15 of the 25 Grenadier couples enjoyed the morning singing to students and staff. Next up it was Windsor Place Adult Daycare where the Grenadiers danced, sang songs and even shared stories about the fest.
Patti Lokken, the 2013 Torchlight Marshal said she loved the experience. "One guy asked how many of us there are and I think I said 15 and he said 'oh it seems like so many more'. I think it's the energy we bring to it. And it's so much fun to see the joy that is brought by us being there."
Veterinarian Tom Thompson said it made his day. "I had one gentlemen 90 years old, beat polio early in his life, and he said like eight times thank you, you made my year."
The Grenadiers have an entire week of visits planned at area schools and nursing homes some take off a week of work to volunteer.
