LA CROSSE, WI (WXOW)—The online health exchange opened Tuesday.
Under the Affordable Care Act, that's when people without health insurance can begin signing up for coverage
However, the web site to do so, http://healthcare.gov, has been bogged down all day.
Gundersen Health System suspects the sheer volume of people trying to shop for health insurance has caused the issues. And glitches are to be expected with any new product or web site.
"We've made contacts with the federal government just to let them know that these are happening," Michael Richards, Executive Director of External Affairs, Gundersen said.
They know that's happening. So its just one of those glitches that is going to have to be worked out soon."
You do not have to rush to sign up for coverage. The market place will be open through March and you have until December 15 to sign up for coverage beginning on January 1.
