LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - Viterbo University students will get the chance to gain real-world experience as paid interns thanks to a $135,000 grant.
The Great Lakes Educational Corporation provided the money to Viterbo so the university can make unpaid internships into paid ones plus create new paid internships.
The university, in their announcement of the grant, stated that many student aren't financially able to take advantage of unpaid internships.
Tom Knothe, dean of the Dahl School of Business, said the grant will provide an invaluable opportunity not only for the student, but also for nonprofits to benefit. "We have a number of great sites located within nonprofits, many of which are hard pressed to pay for interns. Now they will get the benefit of the internships while our students gain invaluable experience."
Viterbo University is one of 19 institutions in Wisconsin to receive a grant.
