WASHINGTON, D.C. (WXOW) Congressman Ron Kind says we have a broken government that must be fixed. He says the only way to do that is through bi-partisan cooperation.
He is part of a group of democrats and republicans working to solve the shutdown and what Kind calls the dysfunction in Washington.
Kind recently outlined a proposal to end the shutdown during a conference call. The proposal includes a 6-month continuing funding resolution, repealing what he calls a policy flaw in the Affordable Care Act known as the Medical Device Tax, and recommending an alternative to pay for the elimination of that Medical Device Tax so they don't add to the deficit.
As far as government dysfunction, Kind says there is a mentality in Washington of holding your opponent to the ground if you believe you have the upper hand. A bi-partisan approach is one way he says lawmakers can change that.
