Oktoberfest Races underway in West Salem

West Salem, WISCONSIN (WXOW)  They're racing in West Salem.

The 44th annual Oktoberfest Races are underway at the La Crosse Fairgrounds Speedway, even with the Thursday afternoon rain.

The four-day race weekend features over 500 drivers competing in 18 divisions.

They'll also crown the NASCAR Late models champ Thursday night, which has already been clinched by Steve Carlson.

But there's still plenty for the racing  fan to see.

"It's with a great deal of pride to be able to host this event every year, to see the quality of racing and to see the fans enjoying it, the folks that come in from out of town and enjoy this part of the state. You get to see some great racing. We're just proud to host this type of event," said track manager Chuck Deery.
