LA CROSSE, WI (WXOW)—More Viterbo students will land paid internships thanks to a $135,000 grant.
Great Lakes Educational Corporation provided the grant to level the playing field for 1,300 juniors and seniors with financial need in the state.
Viterbo was one of 19 Wisconsin colleges and universities to receive funds.
This gives them the ability to give up their part time job and compete for an internship.
Last year, only one-third of Viterbo's 92 internships were paid.
Viterbo said many non profit organizations make great internships, but they often can't afford to pay interns.
"So now we'll be able to help both the non profits get some work done that they couldn't otherwise afford and our students get great experience doing some hands on creative work," Tom Knothe, Dean, Dahl School of Business, Viterbo University said.
This grant will help Viterbo add 59 new paid internships.
