LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) – A day before Fire Prevention Week begins, the La Crosse Fire Department hosted an open house.
More than 500 people attended Saturday, according to the fire department. They got to sit in the fire trucks, see what a smoke-filled house is like, and learn ways to stay fire safe.
The fire department also had pink T-shirts on sale for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
All proceeds go to Gundersen Lutheran's Steppin' Out in Pink, which funds breast cancer research.
"We have a lot of members of our department that have family members or loved ones that have been stricken with breast cancer," said Div. Chief Craig Snyder. "I myself have had my mother and mother-in-law both stricken with breast cancer. So it's important for us to get involved and make that community aware of this and try and help out as much as we can."
The T-shirts will be on sale all month for $15. They can be picked up at Fire Station #1 at 726 5th Ave S., La Crosse.
