LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) – The La Crosse Arts Board has officially recommended taking down the scroll sculpture on Third Street and putting it into storage.
In time, the sculpture would be repurposed someplace else in the city. Where that is has not been decided yet.
But the sculpture will remain in place until the Board of Public Works approves the recommendation.
Monday the sculpture's donors had a chance to respond to weigh in at the Arts Board meeting.
The general consensus was that the sculpture is on a very busy road and hasn't been maintained.
Already some of the plaques on the sculpture have been taken down because the fasteners are disintegrating.
The city will continue removing the rest.
