LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - A roundabout intersection is in the works for a La Crosse neighborhood. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation held an open house Tuesday night to reveal plans for the Cass Street project between 4th and 7th streets.
The existing pavement and underground utilities on Cass Street are over 65 years old and in need of improvements. The project will include a roundabout intersection at 7th and Cass Street and will also feature bike lanes and a new storm sewer and water main. The goal of the project is to increase safety for drivers and pedestrians as well as better roadway operations.
"The roundabout at 7th street will allow people to cross the street easier and it will also improve the left turns out of 7th on to Cass," says WisDOT project manager, Reiny Yahnke.
The project is expected to begin in the spring of 2017 and estimated to cost around 1.5 million dollars.
