La Crosse, Wis. ------ Sophomore Molly Machometa (McHenry, Ill.) scored three goals and assisted on another two goals while senior Steph Wisen (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.) scored a goal and assisted on another three goals to help lead Viterbo University to a 7-0 win over Mount Mercy University.

Machometa and Wisen would connect for the first V-Hawk goal in the 14th minute as Machometa scored her 11th goal of the season. Just five minutes later freshman Liz Conejo (Sun Prairie, Wis.) would get a pass from Machometa to put the V-Hawks up 2-0. Machometa would then put the V-Hawks up 3-0 as she received back-to-back passes from Wisen and Morgan Davis (Jr. – Omaha, Neb.). That would be the scoring in the first half for the V-Hawks as they outshot the Mustangs 11-1 in the opening period.

The second half was very similar to the first half as it was all Viterbo. Conejo would start the scoring in the second period as she got a beautiful pass from Machometa. The goal was Conejo's team leading 14th of the season. Machometa would complete her second hat trick of the season as she scored a goal on an assist by Wisen in the 56th minute. Sophomore Kelly Melhorn (Rochester, Minn.) would come off the bench and score her second goal of the season on an assist by Katie Bares (Fr. – Belgium, Wis.) in the 77th minute. Wisen would cap off the scoring by finding the back of the net of an assist by Conejo in the 85th minute.

For the match, the V-Hawks finished with a 19-6 advantage in shots including 14 of them being on goal. Machometa led the way with seven shots (six on goal) while Wisen and Bares each had three shots. Machometa's hat trick gives her 13 goals on the season as she now has recorded either a goal or an assist in every match she has played in. Wisen now has a Midwest Collegiate Conference leading 11 assists on the year. Junior McKenzie Guth  (Onalaska, Wis.) got the start in goal and played the first 78 minutes for the V-Hawks and made four saves.

The win extends Viterbo's win streak to eight games and improves them to 10-2 overall and 3-0 in MCC action. The loss drops Mount Mercy University to 3-9 overall and 1-1 in conference action. Viterbo will be back in action next when they host the Vikings of Grand View University on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
