Ashland Named WIAC Player of the Week

Madison, Wis. - University of Wisconsin-La Crosse senior Kayla Ashland of Bloomer (H.S.) has been selected the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Volleyball Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. 

Ashland recorded 27 kills (2.70 per set) and hit .385 in three WIAC matches last week.  She finished wiht 27 kills and seven hitting errors in 52 attempts.  Ashland hit .412 (9-2-17) against UW-Eau Claire October 2, and a season-high .462 (8-2-13) at UW-Stevens Point October 5.

She had 10 kills at UW-Superior October 4. 

Ashland also had 9.0 total blocks during the week, including five against UW-Eau Claire.

The Eagles' leader in blocks this year with 57 (0.97 per set), Ashland ranks fourth on the team in kills with 116.  She is fifth in the WIAC in blocks.

UW-L, 7-9 overall and 3-2 in the WIAC, returns to action Friday, October 11 at the UW-Eau Claire Tournament.  The Eagles face UW-Stout at 3 p.m. and the University of Minnesota-Morris at 5 p.m.
