Green Bay, WISCONSIN The Packers confirmed Wednesday that Clay Matthews will miss multiple weeks as he recovers from surgery to repair his broken right thumb.
And when Matthew does return, he will have to play with a cast on that hand.
The packers went 3-1 last season while Matthews sat out with a hamstring injury, so this is not something new to the team.
Mike Neal and Nick Perry will be the starters.
Baltimore has had a hard time protecting Joe Flacco this season.
They've given up 14 sacks in 5 games.
The Packers would certainly rather have Matthews in the lineup but this is still a confident defense without him.
"The confidence is there. I don't think it has anything to do with confidence but just the ability to be able to play the position and play it well. I think that does something for us. Nick's a great player. He'll do well. We'll be able to hold our own," said linebacker Mike Neal.
"They're hot. They're feeling it. You can just see it they have a little more bounce in their step. They're feeling better about themselves. They look good in practice. It's our profession to get after the quarterback and make tackles. Once you do it the first time it's starts to roll now. You get a better nose for it. You get a better idea of how to move yourself off blocks a certain way and make sure you get in on the play," said defensive tackle Mike Daniels.
