LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW - The local Hmong community celebrates a new year Saturday.
Members gathered at the Field for Kids in La Crosse and celebrated with traditional food, music and dancing.
Multiple cultural projects were on display including a hand-crafted home with household items traditionally used in Thailand.
Elders in the community gave tours of the home and displayed how each tool would be used.
Bee Lo, HMA Board Director, says the day is "for people to come and eat and celebrate and take off of work, just visiting, the parents visiting, the elders are visiting and the young people get a chance to find a boyfriend or girlfriend or partners."
The celebration continues Sunday and wraps up around 6 pm.
