LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - It contributed almost 50-billion dollars to Wisconsin's economy and it employs almost 17-percent of the state's workforce. It's manufacturing, according to Governor Scott Walker's office.
La Crosse was among the Governor's stops today during what's called, "The Heavy Metal Bus Tour." The tour highlights successful manufacturing businesses and schools, like western, that help prepare students for a manufacturing career.
"This is important. Its why we put 100 million dollars into worker training. A big portion of that not only in our technical schools but interrelated to our technical colleges across the state and we're trying to draw attention to the fact that they're not only good paying jobs but they're great careers in manufacturing here in the state of Wisconsin," said Walker.
The Governor's participation in the tour is part of his proclamation of October as manufacturing month.
