UW-L Men Place Second at Drews Invite

West Salem, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's cross country team placed second at the 33rd Annual Jim Drews Invitational Saturday morning at Maple Grove Country Club.  The Eagles totaled 96 team points while St. Olaf College (Minn.) won the team crown with 41 points.

Central College (Iowa) was third with 104 points while Iowa Central College was fourth with 130.  A total of 30 teams competed.

Jacob Peterson was UW-L's top finisher, placing 12th overall with a time of 25:25.3 on the 8,000-meter course.  The Eagles' Alex Ciesielski finished 15th (25:29.7) while Andrew Rohlman was 20th (25:33.2).

Josh Dedering finished 22nd (25:35.1) while Nate Routhier was 27th (25:42.8). 

Other finishers in the top-50 for UW-L included David Stilin 37th (25:56.9), Garrett Kerska 38th (25:59.2), Eric Lauria-Banta 46th (26:05.9), Tyler Heinz 48th (26:11.5) and Eric Smits 50th (26:15.3).

The Eagles' Matt Eidenschink was 53rd (26:18.6), Cody Artymiuk 59th (26:28.0), Alex Barbeln 79th (26:40.6), Andrew Heinritz 100th (27:03.1), Michael Rosenberg 107th (27:05.7), Damian Roers 135th (27:28.0), Nick Oelke 142nd (27:32.2), Carlton Folster 158th (27:41.4), Evan Kacmarynski 187th (27:58.2), Joseph Hinz 199th (28:05.3), Lane Geisness 239th (28:24.1) and Sean Royer 274th (28:45.6).

"It was a beautiful day for cross country," said UW-L head coach Derek Stanley.  "The course was in the best shape I have seen it in a couple of years. Temps were perfect and the wind calm which set up for fair and competitive competition.

"Our men encountered foreseeable challenges. Hats off to St. Olaf for running well today. They came prepared and helped us to realize we have work to do. We were running flat today making our way through the peak of the training. We will remain focused on our championship training plan with the end of the year in focus."

Frankline Tonui won the individual title (24:29.0).  A total of 496 runners competed.

UW-L returns to action Friday, October 25 at the Luther College (Iowa) Dual at 5 p.m.
