Record Day Earns Nelson NSIC Offensive Player Of The Week

WINONA, Minn. – Jack Nelson set Winona State freshmen records for passing yards and touchdown passes in the Warriors' win over Wayne State Saturday, earning the quarterback NSIC Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Nelson completed 21 of 28 passes (75 percent) on the day, completing throws to nine different receivers. His 347 passing yards broke the school's freshman record he had set two weeks earlier, while his five touchdown passes are the most in a game by a WSU freshman and are just one off the program's all-time mark.
Nelson's final touchdown was his best, hitting Chichi Ojika out of the backfield for a 65-yard touchdown with less than a minute to play to lift the Warriors to a 45-41 victory. Nelson also rushed for a touchdown, giving him a hand in all six of WSU's scoring plays on the day.
Nelson is the fourth Warrior to earn NSIC Player of the Week honors, joining Alan May (special teams vs. MSU Moorhead), Chichi Ojika (offensive vs. Minot State) and Patrick Lazzara (defensive vs. Upper Iowa).
Winona State (5-2 overall, 3-0 NSIC South) will return to action this weekend when it travels to No. 1 Minnesota State.
