LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - The public got a behind the scenes look at the installation process of the new Astroturf infield at Copeland Park on Tuesday.
Guests were served hot beverages and chili at the viewing party and were encouraged to step on the field and check out the progress of the field construction. Representatives of the Loggers, UWL baseball, and the AstroTurf company were on hand to answer questions about what to expect when the installation is complete. One of the key features of the artificial turf is the drainage system that will reduce the risk for canceled games and long rain delays.
"Because we have the turf or will have the turf this spring, those rain outs and those snow outs sometimes, are gonna be a thing in the past and we're really excited about the quality of playing surface. We did some research and looked around and we're really happy with the product that we're getting," says UWL head coach Chris Schwarz.
The new turf infield is expected to be completed in mid November and the UWL baseball team will host their first game on the new field on March 26.
