SUN PRAIRIE, Wisconsin (AP) - A Wisconsin Army National Guard member just received the Purple Heart for injuries he suffered six years ago in Iraq.
Staff Sergeant Joshua Koch and other soldiers were returning from a mission in 2007 when mortar shells exploded.
Koch received treatment for a concussion and returned to duty. The other soldiers with Koch received Purple Hearts following the attack. Koch did not.
It turns out, there was an administrative error. But, Koch received his Purple Heart last week. He gives credit to his fellow soldiers for helping him receive the medal. He says, "the award means more than I can say in words."
