LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) – Hundreds of kids got a head-start collecting Halloween candy at the Valley View Mall's Halloween Spooktacular Sunday.
Kids dressed up as their favorite characters and went store-to-store trick or treating.
This was the first year Gundersen Health System co-hosted the event that also had live music, games and a costume party.
"Our events don't cost anything – there's no parking fees – so it's just a lot of fun. And of course, on the upside, we add additional foot traffic to the mall that may not be here on a regular Sunday afternoon. And hopefully that helps our retailers make a little bit more money for that month end," said Laurie Cafe, marketing director at the Valley View Mall.
Since October is National Bullying Prevention Month, kids could sign an anti-bullying pledge at the Spooktacular.
Organizers hoped for 300 signatures and said they far exceeded those expectations.
