LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) – With Halloween this Thursday, kids are putting the finishing touches on their costumes.
La Crosse Police encourage them to wear a costume that's a light color, or add reflective tape or a light.
That way they can be easily seen by drivers when it gets dark.
Police also ask people going door-to door to trick or treat in a neighborhood they're familiar with.
Young kids should be accompanies by a parent, added Officer Lisa Barrix. And they should only go to houses that have their lights on.
"I think the biggest danger is kids darting out into traffic and it being dark and people not necessarily paying attention for the kids," Barrix said.
Trick or treating hours for the city of La Crosse and Onalaska are from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
