LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) What does it take to make a living playing music on the big stage? Todd Sucherman talks with musicians about that when he conducts clinics throughout the country.
Sucherman, who gained a reputation as a top tier drummer as a studio musician, now spends more than 100 days a year performing with the rock band Styx. When he's not playing, he's often teaching.
He says playing music for a living requires complete focus. In his words, "you have to do it with every fiber of your being."
Sucherman spent some time talking with musicians in La Crosse recently during a clinic at SSE Music on George Street. He says clinics were a big part of his life when he was learning to play drums. He says it's important to give back and that's why he conducts clinics now, providing "information and inspiration."
Sucherman and Styx are scheduled to perform December 31st at the Treasure Island Casino in Red Wing, Minnesota.
