EAU CLAIRE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - The governor is up for re-election next year and a local lawmaker is still deciding whether she wants to challenge him.
A new poll released yesterday surveyed 800 people, with 47% saying they favor Governor Walker. 44% say they would favor democratic Senator Kathleen Vinehout, even though the majority of those surveyed say they did not know enough about either Vinehout or fellow democrat Mary Burke.
Speaking to our sister station WQOW in Eau Claire, Sen. Vinehout said, "The poll shows that I'm about even, and I'm not even in the race yet. So that makes me want to run. The poll shows that there's no heir apparent to the Democrats. Both the candidates, myself and Mrs. Burke are relatively unknown to the voters. Both of us are going to have to get out and campaign, but we're pretty much neck and neck, and that's encouraging to me."
Vinehout says she expects to make a formal decision early next year.
