LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - The La Crosse County Administrative Center is in need of repair and a draft of the study evaluating the county's options came in Thursday.
The study contains four options for the building.
The two main options are to either renovate or build a new center.
With new construction, the old building could potentially be sold to Western Technical College for use as new dorms.
One of the biggest concerns with the current building is the presence of asbestos. Joe Veenstra, Chair of the Administrative Center Downtown Campus Study Committee said, "The current building, although its functional in a sense, isn't perfect isn't designed for what its really being used for. If we did either remodel or build new, it would serve the public in a much better way."
The preliminary estimates for new construction and remodeling are close, both coming in at just under $25 million.
