SPARTA, Wisconsin (WXOW) – One person is dead and one seriously injured in an car crash in Monroe County early Saturday morning.
A release from the Monroe County Sheriff's Department said shortly before 2:30 p.m. a deputy came across a 2006 BMW on its roof on Dove Avenue in the Town of Byron. One person was inside while another was found lying next to the car.
That person was taken to Tomah Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. Oakdale/La Grange Fire Department members along with Oakdale First Responders were able to get the trapped person inside the vehicle, but that person was pronounced dead.
The release states investigators believe the vehicle was heading east on Dove Avenue when it went off the south side of the road. It went several hundred feet before crossing a creek. When the vehicle hit the bank on the other side of the creek, it rolled over multiple times before ending upside down on the road.
The sheriff's department did not release the names of the people in the vehicle pending notification of relatives.
