Eagles in search of winning record in WIAC

Posted:

La Crosse, WISCONSIN (WXOW)  The UW-La Crosse Eagles rank last in the WIAC in total offense and defense.

Yet somehow, with a win Saturday they can finish the season with a winning record in conference.

It's been a strange year for Joel Dettwiler's squad.

They could've packed it in and gone through the motions after the 0-5 start.

But they've won 3 of their last 4 to set the stage for a program building opportunity Saturday.

"That's a huge deal for the seniors. We've never had a winning record in conference our entire careers here. We started 0-5 and we just started pressing, doing the same things. If we did the same things right, we knew it was going to work," said defensive lineman Andrew Walsh.

"It would be a feather in our cap to accomplish that. Most importantly, it sends off the seniors in the right direction. It gets us ready for the off season and puts us in a good position there," said head coach Joel Dettwiler.

The Eagles will host UW-Eau Claire Saturday at 11:40am.

It's a game you can see live on WXOW 19.
