La Crosse, WISCONSIN (WXOW) The UW-La Crosse defense is playing better of late, but they face a big task on Saturday, literally and figuratively.
They need to slow down Blugolds star tailback Joel Sweeney.
The Tomah graduate carried the ball a whopping 41 times for 185 yards in their meeting last year.
At 6'1" 249-pound Sweeney is also bigger than every Eagles defender except one.
Needless to say, gang tackling will be an emphasis this week.
"He's the hardest guy to take down in conference. We just got to make him bounce and not let him run right up the middle. We need to get ankle tackles on him and tackles below the waist while he's trying to run outside," said senior defensive lineman Andrew Walsh.
Sweeney is the leading rusher in the WIAC this season.
