Madison, WISCONSIN (WXOW)- Humble. Sweet and Savory Pies is taking advantage of Wisconsin's best assets: its cheese and dairy products. The bakery emphasizes, locally-sourced ingredients. Sisters Jill Long and Shelly Cross moved to Madison from Arkansas to fulfill a lifelong dream and start the bakery.
"My sister and I loved to bake as children. Our mother had to work when we were little, and so we would sneak after school and bake something, and as long as it was delicious, she would forgive us!", says Jill.
Jill and Shelly appreciate the adventurous palates of their customers who are willing to try new original creations like Cheddar Almond Cream pie with Cranberry Streusel. They aim for customer satisfaction and when vegetarians started requesting all-butter crusts, they rose to the occasion. "We started comparing butters, because we've tried different brands, and the Wisconsin butter, the color is just beautiful, the flavor is delicious, it's perfect!", says Shelly.
While they make the standard 9-inch pie, Humble is building a reputation for their individual-sized pies which are so convenient for people on the go. The bulk of their business is retail pies, but they also cater weddings and ramp up pie making during the holiday season.
