LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - Spreading the spirit of the season, the Canadian Pacific Holiday train made its annual stop in La Crosse Thursday night.
The train pulled into the Amtrak station on the city's northside all decked out and lit up for those who braved the cold to greet the train.
It began its annual trip in Quebec at the end of November, and spends three weeks traveling across Canada and the United States.
One of the traditions with the train is that those who come to see the music and lights bring along non-perishable food items or cash donations for local food pantries.
Since the Holiday Train first set out in 1999, more than $7.4 million in cash and three million pounds of food was given to communities.
If you missed the train tonight, it is coming back through the area on Tuesday, December 10.
The train plans a stop by the old Commodore restaurant parking lot in La Crescent at approximately 8:45 p.m.
La Crosse, WISCONSIN (WXOW) The Canadian Pacific (CP) Holiday Train will be rolling through the area.
The CP kicked off its annual event in Kahnawake, Quebec at the end of November. The holiday train will now travel across Canada and the United States for the next three weeks.
It will make a stop in Tomah, Sparta and La Crosse on Thursday.
CP asks that attendees bring a non-perishable food or cash donation, and all the donations stay with the food shelf in the community where they're donated. Items like infant formula, canned meats, and spaghetti sauce are in particular demand for the millions of North American's who turn to food banks each month.
