Sen. Klobuchar in Rochester; pushes for anti-sex trafficking act

ROCHESTER, Minn. (FOX 47) -- U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar is championing a bill that would clamp down on sex trafficking, and made a stop in Rochester Monday to explain more details of her proposal.

Klobuchar visited Assisi Heights to push the "Stop Exploitation Through Trafficking Act," which she says would give prosecutors the tools needed to tackle sex trafficking.

The bill is modeled after Minnesota's "Safe Harbor" laws that help ensure minors who are sold for sex online are treated as victims instead of being prosecuted as defendants.

Klobuchar says she's trying to take these safe harbor laws, and implement them nationwide.

Klobuchar's bill would call on states to implement similar laws to Minnesota's within three years or begin losing funding for criminal justice.
