ONALASKA, WI (WXOW)—About 80-percent of fire deaths occur in the home.
To draw attention to structure fires, Onalaska, La Crosse, Town of Campbell and La Crescent Fire Departments have set up wreaths.
Anytime there is a structure fire in the region, the fire departments will take a green bulb out of their wreaths and put in a red bulb.
Their goal is to have no red lights on the wreath by the end of December.
"Take the time to not only preserve the memories of your families and holidays but take the precautions," Chief Don Dominick, Onalaska Fire Department said. "Check your smoke detector, install a carbon monoxide detector."
He said they see more fires in the winter months because people are in their homes more.
