La Crosse shooting suspect going to trial

LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - The Chicago man charged with attempted homicide of a La Crosse woman in a shooting outside of the bar this past summer is going to trial next year on the charge.
In court Thursday morning, 23-year old Cordero Short was bound over for trial after a judge found there was enough evidence for a trial.
The criminal complaint states that last June, outside the Old Style Inn on 5th Avenue South, Short is accused of shooting the woman during a confrontation with another man.
In testimony from Lieutenant Dan Kloss, a detective with the La Crosse Police Department, he said Short told him during an interview that the woman he's accused of shooting walked between him and the man he intended to shoot.
According to the testimony, the other man had a gun as well.
Lt. Kloss said, "He stated that Reavon upped on him, meaning that he raised a gun on him. He raised his gun and fired."
Short's trial is scheduled for March, 2014 according to online records. If he's convicted, Short faces prison time of up to 60 years.
He's currently housed in the La Crosse County Jail on a $250,000 cash bond.
