Transmission Lines Need Study

LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) - The proposed American Transmission Company's transmission line through La Crosse County has been a heated topic since the beginning. The planning, Resource, and Development Committee held a special meeting Monday to talk about the lines. The committee passed a resolution to ask that plans be put on hold until a study comparing the transmission lines and other options could be completed. The 5.2 billion dollar project to build 8 high capacity transmission lines may not be necessary, according to the Energy Planning Information Committee. The hope is that options like renewables, energy efficiency, and conservation will be examined.
County Board Supervisor from the 23rd District, Marilyn Pedretti said, "If we can do some better planning in Wisconsin, its going to save rate payers tons of money down the road."
The resolution will go on to the Executive Committee on Wednesday morning and then to the County Board on December 19th.
