WINONA, Minnesota (WXOW) - The Minnesota State Patrol says seven people in four vehicles, including a small school bus, were involved in a crash Highway 43 between Wilson and Winona Wednesday morning.
At least six of the people involved, one of which was a seven-year-old child, were injured in the accident.
Minnesota State Patrol records show the crash happened at Highway 43 at County Road 21 just before 7:00 a.m. That stretch of highway was closed since the crash as investigators try to determine what happened.
According to early state patrol reports, the school bus was northbound on Highway 43 when it was sideswiped by a Chevy Cavalier. The bus then entered the southbound lanes of Highway 43 and hit a Chevy Cobalt that was southbound on Highway 43. The Chevy Cavalier then went on to hit a Buick Regal that was northbound on Highway 43.
Three people were aboard the bus. The driver, 64-year-old Dennis Becker of Winona, along with 74-year-old Dixie Peshon, and a 7-year-old boy, were reported as having non-life threatening injuries from the crash. The boy suffered minor cuts and scrapes from the crash.
All those injured in the collisions were taken to Winona Health for treatment.
The driver of the Chevy Cavalier, 56-year-old Jeffrey L. William of Winona, also suffered non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the car hit by William, Kelsey Stolt, 22, of Ellendale, Minnesota, was taken from the scene with what were described as serious injuries.
The two people in the fourth vehicle, Mark Kalas, 52, of Lewiston, was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries. A passenger in the car, Jacob Kalas, 28, was not listed as having any injuries.
State Patrol reports state all of the vehicles with the exception of the school bus, were totaled.
Winona, MINNESOTA (WXOW) The Minnesota State Patrol says Highway 43 between Wilson and Winona is closed. It is unclear when the road will re-open.
State Patrol says the are investigating an accident involving a school bus.
It happened around 7 a.m. this morning.
Officers say one student was on the bus at the time of the crash, they had no injuries.
No other information is being released at this time.
