LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW)-- The City Council cleared the way for an economic boost for the city's Northside Thursday night.
The City Council voted unanimously to sell the Trane Plant Six site. The vacant land will soon be a bustling residential and business center. The project calls for a new residential and commercial development on a vacant lot on the north side.
Borton Construction and Three Sixty Real Estate will purchase the land for $1.9 million. The former north side Trane Company Plant will be transformed in to an area for businesses, including a Bronston Chiropractic Clinic and housing.
The project is aimed at creating a larger tax base and bringing jobs to the area.
"For the city, we finally sell a property that's been on the rolls for a long time," said Councilman Ryan Cornett, who represents the 3rd District where the site is located. "$1.9 million is the selling price so that's a good investment. The tax base that's going to come out of it is important and what it does for that area. It changes an area that's a blank slate into something usable and aesthetically pleasing."
Construction will likely begin in the summer of 2014.
