Prairie du Chien, WI (WXOW) - The Prairie du Chien Police Department says a 10-year-old child admitted that they were "playing a prank" on a friend when they wrote a bomb threat on a bathroom wall at Bluffview Middle School.
Police say they were called to the school Tuesday, Dec. 17 at about 11:30 a.m. for a bomb threat. Upon arrival, officers met with school administration and were advised the threat was for the following day, Wednesday.
At that point officers began interviewing students who had used the bathroom based off of surveillance footage of the hallway near the bathroom. At the same time school administration notified staff members of the threat and also did a search of the school for any suspicious packages.
During one interview, officers says they received a confession from a 10 year old child. The child, who wasn't identified, said they acted alone and was only "playing a prank" on a friend.
Officers say they searched the child's residence and did not locate any suspicious items. The case remains under investigation and charges on the child will be pursued by the police department.
While plans called for school activities to be moved, although once the confession was made known to school officials, they decided to go ahead with events as planned on Tuesday evening.
