La Crosse, WISCONSIN (WXOW) - The man facing reckless homicide charges in a drug overdose death in La Crosse County had his bond reduced during a court appearance Wednesday.
28-year-old Malachi Hankel was being held in La Crosse County Jail on a $1,250 bond.
On Wednesday, Judge Todd Bjerke reduced that bond to $500.
Hankels attorney told the court that Hankel has already lost his social security benefits because of his incarceration but could reapply if he can make bail and gets out of jail.
Prosecutors say Hankel provided heroin in September to Town of Barre resident 48-year-old Thomas Tremain, who subsequently died from an overdose.
Hankel is due back in court in January.
