Madison, WISCONSIN (WKOW) Up until a year ago, most college football fans in Wisconsin had no idea who Gary Andersen was.
Fast forward a year later and Andersen is preparing the Badgers for the Capital One Bowl.
Now the cupboard certainly wasn't bare when Andersen arrived.
He inherited a veteran group and guided them to a 9-3 record this season and a date with South Carolina on January first.
Andersen appreciates how this veteran group has embraced a new head coach.
"They had the opportunity to jump on board or not, and they all jumped on board. Because of that, I'll be forever appreciative and the rest of the staff will be also. They could have gone either way. I've learned from these kids. They've taught me a lot. I'm a better person and I'm a better coach because I had the opportunity to be around these kids for the last year. Is it always like that? No, but it is this year and I'm lucky to be a part of it," Andersen said this week.
The Badgers and Gamecocks meet in the Capital One Bowl on January 1st at noon.
You can see the game on WXOW 19.
