Balanced Offensive Attack Leads Warriors To Win Over Upper Iowa

WINONA, Minn. – Four Warriors scored in double figures, led by Riley Bambenek's 21 points, as the Winona State men's basketball team swept its season series against Upper Iowa, posting a 78-68 victory Saturday in Winona.
Bambenek connected on a career-best four 3-pointers while topping the 20 point mark for the third time in the first 12 games of his WSU career. The freshman scored 18 of his points in the opening half, as the Warriors built a 16 point halftime lead. He also grabbed five rebounds while handing out a pair of assists.
Taylor Cameron, Conrad Masberg and Isaiah Gray each added ten points to the Warrior effort, with Kyle Bauman chipping in nine.
Winona State did damage from the free throw line, making 22 of 26 foul shots, hitting the freebies at an 84.6 percent clip. Kellen Taylor connected on all six of his free throws while Bambenek was 5-for-6 at the charity stripe.
The Warriors jumped out to an early 16-4 lead and had moved its advantage to 20 points by the final two minutes of the opening half. Upper Iowa never got closer than 10 points in the second half, with the Warriors holding a double-digit advantage in all but 4:29 of game time.
Winona State limited Upper Iowa to just 32.9 percent (24-of-73) shooting on the game, the ninth time this season a Warrior opponent has not reached 40 percent shooting.
WSU (11-2 overall, 6-0 NSIC) will return to action on Jan. 3-4 when it travels to play Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston.
