Mayo Clinic reports more patients suffering from the flu
ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) -- Mayo Clinic reports an increase in the number of patients suffering from the flu.
Sometimes, it's tough to know when it's time to see your doctor.
However if you have severe symptoms, such as dizziness or severe pain, or have previous health problems, it's time to make an appointment; especially for those over the age of 65 or under the age of one. According to the Mayo Clinic, those ages are at risk for serious flu complications.
However for most healthy people, the flu could blow over in just a few days.
Dr. Priya Sampathkumar said that although the height of flu season is different every year, it's typical for cases to pick up around the last week of December.
"General rule of thumb is that you have a fever higher that's higher than 38.5 degrees Celsius, you probably shouldn't be sending your child to school or going to work," Dr. Sampathkumar said.
For those of you who aren't familiar with Celsius, that's 101.3 degrees Fahrenheit.
Dr. Sampathkumar also said that your best defense against the flu is to get a flu shot if you haven't already, and to wash your hands regularly.
