Stephens family night at Rotary Lights

Posted:

LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) – A local family celebrates Christmas on Dec. 26 because they're too busy running Rotary Lights the day before.

Every Christmas, Rotary Lights President Pat Stephens, along with 24 members of his family, collect donations, pack boxes of food, direct traffic at the light display.

It's something the family has done each year since Rotary Lights started 19 years ago.

Initially it was because there were few volunteers, now the night is reserved for the Stephens family.

"Just to be able to give back to the community – it's that time of year where you like to thank the good Lord for your blessings and this is a good way to do it. And so the kids look forward to helping out and they know the food collections make a tremendous difference in the area," Stephens said.

Among the group of volunteers are Stephens' 11 grandchildren. The youngest is just 5 years old.
