UPDATE: Charges dismissed in stabbing incident

BLACK RIVER FALLS, Wis. (WXOW) - An update on the court case for an Osseo man accused in a stabbing last month.

According to online court records, based on a motion brought by prosecutors, all charges were dismissed against Richard West. He had faced two charges-one for Aggravated Battery and one for Disorderly Conduct.  Judge Thomas Lister granted the dismissal request.

The 36-year-old West was arrested after a fight at the Whispering Pines Tavern early last month. During the incident, one person was stabbed in the abdomen.  The man, David Peterson, was taken to an Osseo hospital, treated, and released.

Jackson County deputies, along with Trempealeau County, were called out to the Whispering Pines Tavern on a report of a fight.

When they arrived, David Peterson from Osseo was being treated for a wound to his abdomen.  He was later taken by ambulance to an Osseo hospital, treated further, then released.

The man whom Peterson had the altercation with, Richard West, had left the tavern. Officers later found him at his home in Jackson County.

After a brief standoff involving the Jackson County Emergency Response Team, West surrendered to deputies.  He was then arrested on a charge of aggravated battery and taken to the Jackson County Jail.

Online court records don't show a court date for West.


BLACK RIVER FALLS, Wisconsin (WXOW) - Jackson County takes one person into custody after an apparent stabbing incident on Wednesday.

Sheriff Duane Waldera, in a statement, said two people were in some kind of physical altercation that led to a man allegedly being stabbed.

It happened at the Whispering Pines tavern in the Town of Garfield.

The man is getting treatment for his injuries, said Sheriff Waldera.  He didn't provide details of how badly the man was hurt.

Both the victim and the person identified as the suspect left before deputies arrived at the tavern.

The suspect was later found and taken into custody.

Sheriff Waldera said the investigation into the stabbing is ongoing.

More details, which would include the names of the two people involved in the incident, are expected on Thursday morning.
