People stocking up before cold

ONALASKA, Wisconsin (WXOW) – People are preparing for the forecasted frigid temperatures and area businesses are reaping the benefits.

Staff at Blain's Farm & Fleet in Onalaska said Saturday was busier than normal. People are stocking up on items that will help them handle the cold.

Popular purchases included space heaters, car batteries and coveralls.

"I mean we've definitely seen an increase in heaters, automotive batteries is a huge one, too, just because with the cold weather, a lot of people, their alternators die and their batteries die, things like that," said Andy Weinrich, assistant manager of Blain's Farm & Fleet.

Weinrich said the very cold winter hasn't just boosted business this weekend. Its been a general trend since December with people getting ready for winter.
