Black River Falls, WI (WXOW) - The young man suspected of killing his father in Jackson County plead not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect during a court appearance Monday.
Lars Helgeson, 20, is charged with first degree murder and hiding a corpse.
Lars allegedly shot and killed Brain Helgeson, his father, in September. Brian's body was found buried on the farm where they both lived.
According to the criminal complaint, Lars told a friend that he was tired of his dad being mean to him and slowing him down. Another friend told detectives Lars said, in his words, "The gods wanted him gone. I did everybody a favor. It was a government deal."
Lars will now undergo a mental evaluation before the court proceeds.
