Prison worker arrested for bringing phones to inmates

Black River Falls, WI (WXOW) - A Jackson Correctional Institution (JCI) worker is in jail for delivering cell phones to inmates in exchange for money.

Karen Robertson, 52, from Sparta, appeared in court Thursday.

Sheriff Duane Waldera said in a release that Robertson worked at the institution as a contract employee providing substance abuse counseling.

Officials said Robertson admitted to officers that during the past several months, she helped deliver three cell phones to inmates inside the facility for money. The inmates had outside resources to assist them with paying Robertson.

At a court hearing Thursday, two charges of felony delivery of articles to an inmate were filed against Robertson.  She was released on a $5,000 signature bond.

She returns to court on January 27.
