LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW) – Imagine being 7 ½ years old and in charge of your elementary school for the day.
That's what Emma Fischer got to do.
The second grader won the chance to be principal Friday at Southern Bluffs Elementary School in La Crosse after her family was the highest bidder in a silent auction.
Fischer led a school assembly on proper behavior, made classroom visits, and supervised the cafeteria.
"Our teacher was happy to see me," Fischer said. "(She) had (the class) give me compliments and stuff," Fischer said.
"I learned a lot about, really, how to be very mature in stressful situations and just take things in stride," said Principal Lisa Schreiner. "(Fischer) has had a lot of events happen today and she's just handled it really well."
Fischer may be principal for the day, but she wasn't completely excused from her classroom assignments. She had to take a spelling test that she aced.
