One arrested after Westby home invasion

WESTBY, Wisconsin (WXOW) -- No one was hurt during a break in Saturday afternoon in rural Westby.

The Vernon County Sheriff's Department says the home's owner called police around 4:00 p.m. and said an unknown woman had entered the house without permission.

The home's owner told police she was home alone at the time, and said the unknown woman knocked on the door. The owner did not answer.

Police say the intruder likely thought the home was empty and decided to enter anyway.
The owner confronted the woman, who then left in a small, red car.

Westby police stopped the car less than 10 minutes after the break in was reported and arrested Nichole Lewis, 34, of Viroqua.

Lewis is being held in the Vernon County jail awaiting a bail hearing.

In a news release issued Sunday, the Vernon County Sheriff says "It is believed Lewis was seeking prescription medications (in the home) because of previous incidents of which Lewis has been charged."

Anyone with more information about the break in is asked to come forward to police.
