Eau Claire Co. (Press Release) - On January 13, 2014 at 9:42 p.m., the Eau Claire County Sheriff's Office responded to the Town of Union for a report of domestic violence where the male resident was disorderly. The male resident was identified as a person the agency was familiar with as they have responded to the home 12-times in the past two-years. In previous contacts the male was unruly, violent, threatening, and uncooperative and weapons had to be removed from the home.
On arrival, deputies believed a female in the home was in danger and the male was excessively violent. The tactical team was activated. While deputies were outside the residence, the male suspect exited the home with an assault-type rifle and fired at a deputy. An exchange of gunfire ensued and the male suspect was wounded and ultimately transported to a local hospital.
The Eau Claire Police Department is investigating the incident and the deputy, by policy, is on administrative leave pending the completion of the investigation.
Upon initial review, Sheriff Ron Cramer supports the actions of the deputy and has expressed his concern for all families involved.
