LA CROSSE, Wisconsin (WXOW)-- Curling took center ice at Green Island Ice Arena Monday afternoon.
As part of Winter Rec Fest, kids 16 and younger got to try the sport. It was put on by the La Crosse Curling Club.
Curling requires sliding a granite stone toward a target area with rings, called the house. A sweeper follows the stone helping it slide along.
Many on the ice Monday were first timers and said the sport is harder than it looks.
"The balance when you push yourself off, it's hard to keep balanced but it's fun," said 13-year-old Will McKellam.
Will says he wants to keep curling after Monday's lesson.
Adults took the ice after the kids to try their hand at curling. The event was free but required a rec fest button.
