LA CRESCENT, Minnesota (WXOW) - Plans are currently in development for a new community center in La Crescent.
The plan is to construct a 15,000 square foot building at the current site of the La Crescent American Legion at the cost of $3.5 million. The community center would provide a new facility for the American Legion that's been suffering from financial difficulties and provide a large space for residents to hold weddings, and large parties and meetings.
"I think its going to add vitality and vigor for our community. Nothing big has happened in La Crescent for the past few years and we want to change the entrance southbound from I-90. We're going to have a whole new entrance to the city. Its going to be a beautiful new structure," says Dick Wieser, the man who presented the idea.
The center will need community support to help raise money for the project and the hope is to have that money by next year when construction can begin.
